“Why is a Raven like a Writing Desk?”

Artist’s Statement:
As I started to stitch the concentric triangles, they made me think of Alice in Wonderland and her trip through the looking glass. The Mad Hatter's riddle "Why is a raven like a writing desk? " became my inspiration. The Mad Hatter asks Alice this riddle and when she asks him for the answer, he says "I don't know." Creating this quilt was a riddle for me, but I think I found an answer.
This quilt was created as part of Project Patchwork, a partnership between IKEA and Textile Center. Artists were challenged to make an art quilt using only IKEA fabrics.
